Gallery 1041 - Mainline and narrow gauge steam at Langxiang

The small town of Langxiang was on the main line from Harbin to Jiamusi. Surrounded by extensive forests the tow depended on the lumber industry for its living. In 1985 steam was repsonsible for haling 100% of the trains on the main line and apart from a small disel railcar all the traffic on the narrow gauge forrestry railway. These scenes were taken in winter when temperatures were well below freezing even in the afternoon.
