Gallery 1035 - Bloemfontein Steam Loco Shed on a Sunday afternoon

South African Railways (SAR) still used a large number of steam locos across the country in the 1980s. Steam loco sheds were always busy places as engines were prepared for their next duty. These activities included cleaning the fire, emptying ash from the smokebox, watering, coaling and servicing. Bleomfontein loco shed even in 1985 was a very busy place with up to 60 locos ready for the next spell of work. These scenes were taken on a Sunday afternoon in May 1985 when most locos were on the depot and under prepartion for the next working week.
