Gallery 1027 - La Grave and la Meije, Hautes-Alps - Part 2

The area surrounding La Meije (3441m.), one of the highest peaks in the Ecrins National Park, is noted for its unique architecture with its small villages scattered across the steep mountain slopes. Less popoular with tourists than many parts of France, the scenery is often spectacular with many mountains having extensive grass slopes. The weather on this particular day was generally excellent and the images in this essay were taken during a ride on the La Meije cableway to the ice field below the summit. A walk was also included to the Refuge Evariste Chancel with its spectacular viewpoint looking east along the gorge. Later that day another short walk from the village of le Chazelet located above la Grave yielded more pictures of La Meije and the village.
